[I didn't see a way to make the Component be v2]
A common requirement is the ability to substitute an image when a character is not available. An example is for the new Turkish Lira, which is not in common fonts yet.

Font support is beyond the scope of TC 39, and should be proposed to a W3C working group instead. See discussion at
